What doesn’t kill you makes you tougher. This saying may also apply to fan communities. Such as the action series SWAT: The story about members of a US special police unit has already been on the verge of ending twice. And both times she was saved. The fan solidarity is now so strong that the series has made it to number 3 on the Netflix charts.
Third place on Netflix: That’s what SWAT is about
SWAT revolves around a division of the so-called Special Weapons And Tactics unit (SWAT) of the Los Angeles Police Department. It consists of elite forces who are particularly used in crimes such as hostage-taking, terrorism or extreme gang violence. The focus of the series is Hondo (Shemar Moore), who leads the Department 20 Squad. He was born in LA and has deep roots in the city’s neighborhoods.

The action series SWAT has already been canceled twice
SWAT has been running on the US channel CBS since 2017. After the original broadcast of season 6, which recently landed on Netflix, the series was canceled in 2023. Surprisingly The broadcaster rescinded the cancellation just days later and confirmed the green light for a 7th and final season.
But the second planned ending was also averted. While the 7th season was still airing in the US, SWAT was renewed for an eighth season, which finally premiered on CBS in October 2024. The reason for the planned termination of the series was budget issues. According to an author’s Reddit post, you’ve been through “painful cuts” the continued existence of production is ensured.
Not on Netflix: Where is SWAT season 8 showing?
In addition to the current six seasons on Netflix, the current 8th season is also available in this country: It is currently aired until episode 6 on Sky One, Sky Q, Sky Go and WOW.
It is not yet clear whether season 8 will be the last of the series. Maybe SWAT will survive a third cancellation.
