The fantasy adventure The Princess with actress Joey King (The Act) in the well-born leading role is running tonight on German free TV. A formidable celebration for everyone who missed the Disney film project before it was kicked out of the in-house streaming service Disney+.

And an entertaining one Alternative to the Netflix film Damsel with Stranger Things superstar Millie Bobby Brown in the title role of the fighting princess. Both titles ultimately revolve around princesses saving themselves.

The Princess on TV: When the damsel in distress becomes a fantasy heroine

In The Princess, a nameless princess (King) abandons her vile fiancé Julius (Dominic Cooper) at the altar. Out of revenge and a thirst for power, he and his henchmen attack the entire court and keep the princess trapped in the dungeon tower, to still get to the crown.

When the princess finally frees herself and sets about rushing to her parents’ aid, Julius sends his henchmen and his whip-wielding lover Moira (Olga Kurylenko) after her. It’s lucky that the robust king’s daughter was trained in all kinds of martial arts by her mentor Linh (Veronica Ngo).

If the entertaining action adventure in medieval garb seems like fantasy John Wick with a beating princess to you, that’s not necessarily a coincidence. Wick creator Derek Kolstad is ultimately involved as a producer on the film. The film was directed by Le-Van Kiet (Furie).

As screenwriter Jake Thornton revealed to ScreenRant, he and co-writer Ben Lustig’s basic idea was: Rapunzel meets The Raid.

What I liked about it was taking a theme, that of the princess held in the tower, but just doing something with it that had never been seen before. I think that was what excited us and I so much that we started writing straight away. When and where is the fantasy adventure The Princess on TV?

The Princess airs this Friday, December October 25, 2024 at 10:35 p.m. on ProSieben. Alternatively, the film is available to rent or purchase on Amazon, Apple TV and Google Play.
