On the sandy beaches of Malaga, the temperature record for April was broken, when the mercury rose to 33.5 degrees. The official reading at Malaga airport was even higher, i.e. 33.7 degrees, says the Andalusian Meteorological Institute AEMET.
The previous April temperature record of 33.1 degrees was only a year old.
The video images transmitted by the Spanish public broadcasting company show people enjoying the warmth on the beach and cooling off in the sea breeze on the Sunshine Coast.
According to the Meteorological Institute of Andalusia, the heat wave that came with the terral wind will continue for the rest of the week.
Spain is preparing for a record hot and dry summer. According to meteorologists, the entire spring is already warmer than normal, as was the past winter.
March was the second warmest and least rainy month in Spain this century, according to AEMET.
