In southern Europe, forest fires continue due to the extreme heat. At the same time, Britain is preparing to face the highest temperatures the country has ever seen.
The heat wave is not expected to reach its peak until the beginning of next week when the heat record of 38.7 degrees looks like it can be broken. Britons are now urged to work from home and not get out on public transport unless it is necessary.
British ministers in emergency meeting on heat wave
Britain’s ministers have held an emergency meeting on Saturday. The reason is that meteorologists now warn of record high temperatures which in the worst case can endanger people’s lives, several media write.
