Extreme drought in Kenya has led to increased poaching

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Such a persistent drought as is going on right now in Kenya has never before been experienced in modern times. This has led to almost 70 percent of the nomads’ livestock, such as sheep, goats and camels, dying of starvation. People are therefore in great need of food, which has also led to increased poaching.

– “We are probably on the brink where we start to see that the ecosystem is disappearing and with it species are disappearing and a lot of people’s lifestyles are threatened”, says Allan Carlson, nature conservation expert at WWF.

The acute lack of water also leads to elephants finding their way out of national parks and into human villages in search of drinking water. There they break water containers to get in liquid, which poses a great risk to the people who live there.
