It was stated that the structure was built in at least three stages between the second half of the 2nd century BC and the end of the 1st century BC.
While the residence in question had an atrium, a garden and a dining hall, a rustic-style mosaic was also unearthed, described by the authorities as “extraordinary”.
Experts noted that the discovery of this old house is of great importance for Roman history.
Italian Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano said: “A real treasure has been discovered in the heart of Rome. This is a discovery of significant scientific value.” he said. (AA)
