Extra plow trucks are hired for the snow storm – must keep E4 open

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

SMHI has issued an orange warning for the night of December 30. In addition to the snowfall, heavy drifts, snow-mixed rain and rain are expected. This can lead to delays in bus, train and air traffic and canceled departures.

Street operations manager: “Avoid being in traffic”

– We have been working a few nights unloading piles of snow to make room for new snow, says Per Hilmersson, street operations manager at Umeå municipality.

He believes that it is difficult to assess how it will be when the temperatures are around the freezing point or even on the positive side.

– But this will be so strong that it will be difficult. If there is nothing special to do outside, you should preferably avoid being out in traffic, says Hilmersson.

Increased plowing with extra vehicles

Svevia, which manages the operation of all major roads along the coast in southern Västerbotten, has staffed up for the storm.

– We have hired extra trucks, says supervisor Hampus Gustafsson.

Up to 30 vehicles will be out on the state roads south of Umeå where the storm is expected to wreak the most havoc, of which 12 only on the E4 between Umeå and Husum.

Rain can cause it

– The worst that can happen is that it gets mixed up and turns into rain. Then we have nothing that can upset it at once, he says.

Otherwise, accidents can stop the snow removal as well.

– A stop at E4 leads to a lot of work, says Hampus Gustafsson.
