On Valborgsmässoafton, extra guards are deployed in Lund to keep the celebrants away from the train tracks.

Tens of thousands of people usually celebrate what in Lunden is called last April in Stadsparken and many come there by train.

At the same time, it is increasingly common that trains have to be stopped or run at a reduced speed due to derailment.

Anyone who crosses the rails exposes himself to life-threatening danger, warns the Swedish Transport Administration. A train can travel 200 meters in three seconds and the braking distance in case of emergency braking is more than a kilometer.

“Everyone has a responsibility to adhere to the rules that exist. But from experience we know that there are some who still don’t. Then we have to do what we can to prevent situations arising linked to unauthorized persons on the tracks,” says Mattias Nordborg at the Swedish Transport Administration in a press release.
