Försäkringskassan has for some time had problems with fraud and benefit violations where people incorrectly report absence from work even though they are on site.
Now Försäkringskassan is taking action against these individuals.
“Unfortunately, we see that the system is being abused and every kroner that goes out incorrectly must be stopped,” he says Peter Fausöhead of Försäkringskassan’s control activities, in a press release from the authority.

Extra checks from October 1
As of October 1, 2024, the Social Insurance Agency will introduce extra checks regarding VAB. According to Fausö at Försäkringskassan, the authority has seen the subsidy that you can get for a longer period of time from VAB being abused.
– Vab is a compensation that many people take part in. The whole system is based on trust where the applicant does not have to show either a doctor’s certificate or a certificate from an employer that you have been at home, he says in the press release, and continues:
– The autumn’s extra checks are part of that work.

For the person who has committed a crime, there may also be a police report and prosecution, even if the suspected crime only involves single, incorrect VAB days, writes Försäkringskassan on its website.
The authority will investigate all suspected grant violations and claim back the money paid out incorrectly.

This is how Försäkringskassan detects benefit violations
According to Försäkringskassan, parents who report VAB despite working costs approximately SEK 800 million each year.
They will now carry out random checks and collect information from employers and preschools if they suspect crime.
– If there is a suspicion that someone has been involved in this type of fraud for a long time, we go back several years in time with our control investigations and investigate the person. We are also becoming increasingly accurate thanks to increased knowledge, says Fausö from Försäkringskassan i the press release.
