“Extinct” porcupine appeared on surveillance footage

The film shows the species Zaglossus attenboroughi, named after the TV profile Sir David Attenborough. It is part of the long-beaked porcupine genus, which is believed to have lived at the same time as the dinosaurs.

Porcupines are shy animals and only meet each other during the mating season, once a year.

The species has not been seen since 1961 – until now in Indonesia.
