Large amounts of rain have fallen over Örebro County during the night towards Sunday. Emergency services have received about 100 calls about flooded addresses, and on Sunday morning about 50 were still waiting for help.
– I experience it as very comprehensive. The extreme weather situation has hit a large area at the same time, says Peter Backman, on-duty rescue manager at the Bergslagen rescue region.
Roads around the county have also been closed as a result of the floods. Affected roads include road 50 in the northbound direction at the height of Katrinelund, which was closed on Sunday morning. Alarms about water bodies and floods have also come in from addresses in Fjugesta, Kumla, Vintrosa, Askersund, Karlskoga and central Örebro, reports Nerikes Allehanda.
During the night, the rescue service received about 100 alarms from addresses affected by the water masses.
– There are more than 100 households and properties that are affected, with multi-family houses and residential developments being the worst affected, says Peter Backman.
According to SOS Alarm, the alarm calls continue to come in during Sunday morning.
Big challenges for the emergency services
On Sunday morning, the emergency services are faced with major challenges because the water in most households comes from the back via the sewer network.
– The problem for us is pumping away such water because it becomes like a kind of roundabout. There must therefore be room in the sewer network to be able to transport the water away. We are out in the field and contribute what we can. We have all the resources out there to help, says Peter Backman, who believes that the rescue service’s efforts will continue throughout the day.
– It has stopped raining, and if it continues, we will have to keep going all day, he says.
Since yesterday evening, roughly 30 millimeters of rain has fallen over Örebro County.
Impossible to pass in some places
The flooding on roads has made it difficult, in some cases impossible, to pass by vehicle, reports P4 Örebro. The accessibility problems apply, among other things, to the E18 in Karlskoga at the large roundabout and Brickegården, at the Kvarntorps roundabout between Pålsboda and Marieberg and on national highway 50 just south of Askersund.
On highway 733 between Garphyttan and Örebro, there should also be large amounts of water, according to the radio.
