The exemption is now extended until the end of the 2022–23 season. This means that players in big clubs such as Zenit St Petersburg and CSKA Moscow are free to sign for which team they want in the coming season.
However, players are not allowed to break their contracts completely and players who are under contract until 2024 or longer must return to Russia in the summer of 2023.
During the spring, stars such as Jordan Larsson (AIK), Sead Haksabanovic (Djurgården), Filip Dagerstål (IFK Norrköping) and Armin Gigovic (Helsingborgs IF) have used the exemption for games in the Allsvenskan.
