An apartment building in Tyresö southeast of Stockholm caught fire during the night after an explosion.

No one was injured, and the police have opened a preliminary investigation into arson.

– We received several calls at 03:00 a.m. about a detonation in Öringe and luckily we had a police car that was quite close by, and when it arrived, it was able to determine a serious fire in the apartment building, says Ola Österling, press spokesperson at the Stockholm Police.

Thanks to the fact that the police car was quickly on the scene and was able to alert the emergency services, the fire on the facade and loft corridors was extinguished quickly and the residents did not have to be evacuated.

– This is a two- or three-storey house with loft corridors and according to several agreed witnesses, the fire started with an explosion, so we judge that the fire was probably started with an explosive charge, says Ola Österling.

The place is cordoned off and the police have extensive resources on site, including forensic experts and special search dogs.

– We have secured traces and technical evidence and have an idea of what has happened because we have had events of a similar nature in the same area during 2024, says Ola Österling.
