An explosion in Kabul on Wednesday killed Khalil Haqqani, the Taliban’s minister in charge of refugee affairs, the AP reports, citing Interior Ministry officials, who say the explosion was a suicide attack and took place inside the ministry.
According to Reuters, a family member of Haqqani has also confirmed his death.
Part of brutal network
Khalil Haqqani was part of the powerful and notorious Haqqani network, which is sometimes described as the Taliban’s marine corps. Haqqani became a minister in the Taliban’s transitional government in Afghanistan after foreign forces withdrew from the country in 2021.
According to AP, there is still no information about who or who are behind the explosion.
