Explosion in Hässelby – at least three injured

Three people have been taken to hospital after a powerful explosion in a stairwell in Hässelby Strand on Monday evening.

– It rained like hell, says a resident in the area.

At the address live relatives of a person who, according to information to Aftonbladet, is in conflict with a criminal network.

The police were alerted at 21.10 on Monday evening about a powerful explosion in a stairwell to an apartment building in Hässelby strand in western Stockholm.

At least three people have been injured and have been taken to hospital by ambulance.

– The extent of the damage is unclear, says Anna Westberg, press spokesperson at the police.

Relatives of a person who, according to information, is in conflict with a criminal network live at the address.

Examining race risk

The national bomb protection and rescue services have been alerted to the address.

– Some form of explosion has occurred, we are there and assist the police with several units, says Magnus Bengtsson, commanding officer of the rescue service.

The house has been evacuated and the emergency services are now investigating a possible race risk.

– There is no risk of collapse for nearby buildings. But we are investigating the multi-family building in question together with property owners.

A premises nearby has been opened for the evacuees.

The police are now searching for suspected perpetrators with, among other things, a helicopter.

– We have not detained anyone suspected of the explosion. But we have a big effort in the area and will have it for several hours, says Anna Westberg.

Details: Gloves found

According to information to Aftonbladet, the police have found gloves and other objects in a place near the house where it exploded. The place is now cordoned off and the police are investigating whether the objects can be linked to the perpetrators behind the detonation.

According to Aftonbladet’s informant, the witnesses must have seen two people with their hoods pulled up who fled the scene after an object was placed outside an apartment door.

“Felt like an earthquake”

People in the area state that they heard a loud bang in connection with the explosion.

– It was small as hell. It rattled a lot in the apartment, says a Hässelby resident to Aftonbladet.

A man who lives next door to the gate where it exploded says he felt his own house shake.

– I was sitting and playing with some friends and then it started shaking, it felt like the whole house was going to collapse as if it were an earthquake, says a resident nearby to Aftonbladet.

The explosion was also felt in Rinkeby and Bromma.

– Some type of pressure wave reached here, it was noticeable in the window panes, says a resident of Bromma to Aftonbladet.
