Explosion at car in Eklanda in Mölndal

The alarm about the explosion at an address in Eklanda came at 06:00 on Sunday morning.

– It must be some form of explosion at a carport (roofed parking lot redds note), with damage to the car and the carport, says Kalle Kivistö, alarm and control officer at the Greater Gothenburg rescue service around 06:30.

The alarm reached SOS through a person who called them.

– We have had a caller who heard a loud bang and saw smoke, the management operator at SOS Alarm tells SVT.

Police confirm explosion

Just after 07:00, the police confirm that an explosion has taken place. No one was physically injured, but cars were materially damaged.

– There is something lying on a car that has exploded and damaged another car, but it is unclear what, says Jens Andersson, police spokesperson.

Residents were asked to stay inside

The area around the explosion was cordoned off and the National Bomb Squad was called in to investigate.

– They must ensure that nothing else can explode. Until they are ready, residents at the barriers are housed, says Jens Andersson.

Shortly before 09:00 the bomb shelters were ready at the site and there is no danger to the public.

No suspect

The incident is being investigated as public destruction and a violation of the Act on Flammable and Explosive Goods. The police write on their website that they are working intensively with information gathering. There are no suspects in the case at this time.
