Explosion at a residential building in southern Stockholm

The alarm to the police came at 03:25 on Saturday night about a loud bang in the district of Skarpnäck in southern Stockholm.

When the police arrived at the scene, they were able to determine that something had detonated at a gate to an apartment building.

– Among other things, windows have been broken and there is also damage inside the stairwell, says Helena Boström Thomas, press spokesperson at the police.

It is still unclear whether the explosion took place inside the stairwell or just outside the entrance door. There are no reports of personal injuries.

– People spontaneously evacuated so the building is completely empty, says Helena Boström Thomas.

Examining race risk

There are currently no arrests and the police do not want to comment on any suspects. The crime is categorized as public destruction.

– We have a lot of resources there right now, it’s about both looking for perpetrators and investigating the course of events.

The police have set up cordons, knocked on doors in the area to gather witness information and also have the national bomb disposal team working at the scene. A technical survey will be carried out.

– The emergency services have also looked at the racial risk and it is work that is still ongoing.

In a first stage, the emergency services have established that there is no risk of collapse for the building.
