The European zoo organization Eaza is visiting Furuvik Park on Thursday to find out what happened when four chimpanzees were shot to death in December, reports P4 Gävleborg.

Together with staff at Furuviksparken, Eaza’s experts will analyze what happened and look at how to prevent something similar from happening again. They must also examine what the routines look like.

Whether the chimpanzees will remain in Furuviksparken remains to be seen. No decisions about the future should be made during the visit.

– We await the results of the investigations before we take any measures, if necessary, says Tomasz Rusek, Acting Head of Communication and EU Policy at Eaza, to the radio.

It was on December 14 that five chimpanzees escaped from their enclosures at the zoo. Four of them were shot dead, and it wasn’t until December 17 that the zoo had the escaped animals back into their enclosures.
