Emphasizing that cold weather is a risk factor for heart patients, Altay said:

“When we go out in cold weather, there is a narrowing of the veins. This also applies to the heart vessels. This situation both disrupts the oxygen supply of the heart and increases its energy need. Therefore, the risk of chest pain and heart attack increases in heart patients in winter months. Therefore, especially heart patients in cold weather. They should be careful. They should not go out much, especially in the morning and evening when the frost is effective. We recommend wearing clothes to protect the chest area during the hours when the weather is a little warmer at noon. When one room in the house is very hot and the other room is very cold, when full air conditioning is not provided in the house The risk of heart attack can increase. That’s why we usually recommend even heating the rooms evenly.”

prof. Dr. Altay stated that heart patients should pay attention to their nutrition during the winter months. Noting that the need for energy and the frequency of nutrition increase during the winter months, Altay said, “Foods that will meet both energy needs and will not harm heart patients should be consumed. Fish consumption in winter is very beneficial. Foods high in sugar and low in fiber should be avoided. Legumes with high nutritive properties should be preferred. In addition, vegetables such as leeks, cauliflower and okra should be consumed. Red meat consumption should be reduced and fried foods should be avoided.” Altay added that attention should be paid to fluid consumption during the winter months.
