Expert warned: Do not consume it during iftar! Causes tooth loss

Expert warned Do not consume it during iftar Causes tooth

Experts warn against tooth decay, which may occur due to decreased saliva flow due to lack of food and liquid consumption during Ramadan, and emphasize that oral care is very important to clean food residues before going to bed at sahur. While the food residues left in the mouth after sahur turn into decay during the day, acidic foods consumed at iftar pose a much greater danger to dental health. Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Batu Can Yaman said about the acidic drinks consumed at iftar: “Let’s not consume acidic foods as they may cause abrasions on the cervix and the root parts of the teeth.”

FOOD RESUMES SHOULD BE CLEANED AFTER SAHUR

Prof. stated that oral and teeth cleaning should be done after the sahur meal at night. Dr. Yaman said, “Of course, Ramadan is a special month for all of us. People are fed with two meals. We break our fast and then have our sahur after a certain hour. After eating, your teeth must be brushed and any food residue left on their surfaces must be removed.

If we do not do these, there is a possibility that we may encounter carious activations, as the saliva flow in the mouth decreases since we do not eat or drink any water, and the buffering mechanisms due to saliva will not work. For this reason, the best oral health is achieved by brushing our teeth after sahur and removing any food residue left between our teeth. In this way, protection is provided during the day. “It is recommended by us dentists to remove food residues from the teeth, especially after iftar, which is our first meal,” he said.

CAUSES CARISE-FREE TOOTH LOSS

Prof. stated that acidic drinks, which are frequently included in iftar tables, cause decay-free and rapid tooth loss. Dr. Batu Can Yaman used the following statements:

“Let’s stay away from sugary foods that can stick to the teeth during sahur. Because if we cannot remove them from our mouth by brushing them somehow, we may see rotten activations due to the decrease in the saliva flow rate that occurs during the day. This will cause our teeth to rot for no reason. You are eating for the first time at iftar. We recommend that very high acidic foods not enter the oral environment at once. Especially if you haven’t eaten anything during the day, you are starting to eat food for the first time. For us, consuming directly acidic foods during iftar means tooth loss without decay. In other words, let’s not consume acidic foods as they may cause wear on the cervical and root parts of the teeth.”
