Jeffrey Goldberg, editor -in -chief of The Atlantic, has shared several details from the group chat to which he was accidentally invited.
In addition to the planned attack on the Huthi rebels in Yemen, the tone is tough about Europe.
The signature JD Vance, US vice president, writes, among other things: “I just hate that we will save Europe again”.
The statement is that the purpose of US attacks is to again secure shipping on the Red Sea, which Europe would also benefit.
The Huthi rebels, in protest of Israel’s warfare in Gaza, have repeatedly attacked vessels on the trade route.
Minister of Defense in the chat: “Pathetically”
Defense Minister Pete Hegseth’s signature, shares the vice president’s frustration in the chat:
“I completely share your disgust against Europe’s slump. It is pathetic”.
Dag Blanck, professor of North American Studies at Uppsala University, says the statements confirms that the United States has a negative view of cooperation with Europe.
– It confirms what we have known for quite some time and maybe blocks the anxiety. It’s nothing new, but now we hear it from their own mouths, he says.
Blanck: Confirming changed policies against Europe
The tone against Europe from the United States has changed since Donald Trump took over as president. Europe can no longer expect the United States to play the same role as before, says Dag Blanck.
– The transatlantic link has been very important for European security policy, and has benefited the United States. But the current president does not see it, he says and continues:
– This is another puzzle piece in a long line of indications that there is a changed policy against Europe.
The leaked chat has raised strong criticism and questions about how sensitive defense information could be shared in an app. Something that even Dag Blanck questions.
– It is very customer -handed, he says.
The White House has confirmed that a journalist was accidentally invited to the group chat, but denies that military plans or secret information spread.
