Expert: That speaks for a record turnout for the EU elections

The early early voting for the parliamentary elections to the EU, which has been ongoing since May 22, is so far the highest since Sweden joined the EU.

In the first week, the Swedish Electoral Authority saw an increase of almost 40 percent compared to the same period before the EU elections in 2019. One explanation behind Swedes’ interest in voting early may be the election day, which this time is a bit into June.

  • Therefore, the EU is drawn towards the outer edges

  • This is how the EU wants to cooperate to fight crime

  • There are many indications that the total voter turnout will also be the highest so far, according to Henrik Ekengren Oscarsson.

    – Historically, there has often been a strong correlation between the amount of inflow of early votes and the final turnout, he says.

The highest rating is from the last election in 2019, when the Swedish voter turnout was 55 percent. Election day is June 9.
