Expert says Valve is neglecting Steam hit Counter-Strike 2 for its new darling

Professional shooter Tyson “TenZ” Van Ngo has made a name for himself with Valorant. He was considered an expert back then, but he also had strong opinions about other shooters. He apparently doesn’t see a great future for Counter-Strike 2 (Steam) at Valve. They would neglect the game in favor of the new MOBA hybrid Deadlock, for which he predicts a bright future. TenZ blames Valve boss Gabe Newell for this, saying he hates Counter-Strike and is a “MOBA guy”.

This is what TenZ says about Counter-Strike 2: In a livestream, TenZ was asked what he thought would happen next for Valve’s two games, Counter-Strike 2 and Deadlock.

According to TenZ, Counter-Strike is only getting an “alibi treatment” from Valve; the shooter is basically in maintenance mode like the shooter Team Fortress 2:

  • The upgrade from CS:GO to Counter-Strike 2 was all about bringing the game to the Source 2 engine.
  • As an example of why so little happens in Counter-Strike 2, he cites the fact that CS2 didn’t receive anything big for its 1st birthday.
  • TenZ says: Valve treats Counter-Strike like a “damned adopted child.”
  • Counter-Strike 2: Valve really impresses again with its launch trailer

    Deadlock gets preferential treatment

This is how he sees deadlock: According to TenZ, Valve would shower the new MOBA shooter hybrid Deadlock with love and therefore neglect Counter-Strike:

But the other reason is that they can just do it and say they did something and then go full deadlock and release two full patches of content. New characters, new jungle camps, new items and everything, new graphics, every two weeks. But, happy birthday Counter-Strike, you got nothing

TenZ believes: Gabe Newell simply hates Counter-Strike

Why is that? TenZ blames this on Gabe Newell, who probably hates Counter-Strike. Although the shooter has earned him billions of US dollars, he is never seen at events or tournaments, but is always seen at the major DOTA 2 tournaments.

He is probably simply a “MOBA guy” and therefore now prefers deadlock. Because this is a MOBA.

    TenZ is sure:

The guy just hates Counter-Strike. The game makes the studio a stupid amount of money and he’s like, “Meh.”

This is what lies behind it: Gabe Newell’s personal preferences certainly won’t play a role, but it actually seems like Counter-Strike 2 is running extremely well, but Valve’s focus has clearly shifted to DOTA 2 and Deadlock in the last year. As TenZ says, there was little new in Counter-Strike 2. The huge e-sports cycle is going on and Valve is making a killing with skins, but there was a lot of criticism of the game itself, especially from established people like shroud or s1mple.

While DOTA 2 has had significant changes and reworks and apparently a lot of resources have gone into Deadlock. So by analyzing what’s happening, you can agree with TenZ why this is happening, but it’s an open question: one of the best Counter-Strike players of all time says you shouldn’t be playing CS2 right now
