Helsingborg-based Nederman manufactures products for industrial air purification with the whole world as its market. The company has a lot of production in the USA and this means that the economic impact of the weak Swedish krona against the dollar will be less than it would otherwise be.
– What we have to do is of course work with pricing and make sure we can handle it in a decent and good way. In other respects, in the longer term you can consider in some cases finding other suppliers who are in other currency areas, says Sven Kristensson.
Weakest krona in over 20 years
Not since the years 2001-2002 in the wake of the IT crash has the krona been so undervalued against the US dollar as now. Then a dollar for long periods cost between 10 and 11 kronor. Recently, the dollar exchange rate has been at those levels again. An important reason why the krona is so undervalued now is, according to economists SVT spoke to, that the Riksbank has for a long time set a very low interest rate.
– They have had a very low interest rate, for a long time minus interest rates, and they have said that they want a weak currency to create inflation. This has reduced the appetite from the outside world to buy Swedish kronor, says Robert Bergqvist, senior economist at SEB.
Adapts to the situation
At the air filtration company Nederman, they still take the shaky economic situation calmly. It’s just a matter of adapting.
– These are things that are natural changes in an economy and we can not influence it. Therefore, we adapt to the current situation, says Nederman’s CEO Sven Kristensson.
