Technical equipment worth hundreds of thousands of kroner has been stolen from work vehicles during the construction of the Norrbothnia Railway just outside Umeå, local media reports.

It is about GPS equipment that was in work vehicles. The value of the stolen goods amounts to SEK 200,000, according to the police.

– It’s about professional, criminal people who know exactly which equipment can be resold on the black market, says the police’s on-call preliminary investigation leader Mats Bruhn to SVT Nyheter Västerbotten.

The police suspect that the theft must have occurred sometime between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, after staff left the workplace.

Just over two weeks ago, similar equipment worth around two million kroner was stolen from an industrial area in Skellefteå. It is too early to say whether it is an organized theft, according to the police.

No one has been arrested and police are seeking tips from the public.
