Among the main expenditure items, transport still ranks first, accounting for nearly 51.5%. Travel costs have notably increased by 8.85% in 2023 compared to 2022, with the car remaining “the preferred mode of transport for French employees, followed by the train and the plane in third position”, explains Expansya.

Spending on business meals also increased by 0.31%, to 19.7% of the total. Finally, Expensya notes an increase in training expenditure: although this only accounts for 0.44% of total expenditure, it is above all their number which has exploded, with an increase of 51.25% in transactions linked to training. in 2023.

Inflation and economic recovery

According to Expensya, a first reason for this increase in spending lies in inflation, which continued to accelerate in 2023, and which “results in an increase in spending on meals, transport, accommodation and other professional expenses,” explains the company.

The definitive resumption of economic activity after the Covid-19 pandemic also explains this increase in expense reports compared to the 2022 financial year, leading to an “increase in professional travel and business lunches”, continues Expensya.
