New Year’s Day is expected to be very snowy in northwestern Götaland and southern Svealand, and with the large amount of snow there is also a risk of power outages.

– A serious storm is moving in from the west during the night leading up to New Year’s Day. We expect that it will create a lot of problems, especially around Lake Vänern, says Ellevio’s press communicator Jonatan Björck.

Heavy and wet snow settles on branches that break, or bend down over the power lines. The weather also makes it difficult for repairmen to get out to remote locations in the forest.

– That it comes right now during the Christmas and New Year holidays is just bad luck.

And in recent days there have been unusually many power outages in some areas.

– It is not normal. I have worked for just over ten years and it is one of the messier Christmases.
