The last time Filip Helander started in the national team was in the WC qualifier against Greece in Athens over two years ago. In March 2022, he made a short appearance in the playoff semi-final for the World Cup against the Czech Republic at the Friends arena.
The injuries came one after another that season and only in September did he play 90 minutes again, for Odense in the Danish league.
The return to the national team, in Thursday’s 3-1 victory against Moldova, was convincing. With Carl Starfelt suffering from a minor injury, Janne Andersson chooses the experienced centre-back as partner for Victor Nilsson Lindelöf against Belgium.
Linus Wahlqvist Egnell is preferred in competition with Emil Holm as right back.
As expected, Dejan Kulusevski steps up from midfield and replaces the injured Alexander Isak as a striker.
