Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro came with a non-working infrared sensor for skin temperature measurement in August 2022. After about 1 year, this problem disappeared and skin temperature can finally be measured.
Samsung confirmed this feature in February and enabled skin temperature measurements today, eight months after launch. The sensor also allows for skin temperature-based cycle tracking, which users had to do manually until now.
The cycle tracking feature was developed in conjunction with Natural Cycles, a company with an approved birth control app, and gives users more detailed information about their menstrual cycles.
While the temperature taken from the wrist is not directly comparable to the readings we get from medical thermometers, there is regular skin measurement as well.
