Latest developments about Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated GTA 6 game, the impact of artificial intelligence in the gaming industry and statements by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.
After a ten-year wait, the eyes of the video game world turned to Rockstar Games’ new bomb, Grand Theft Auto 6. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two, made important statements about the effects of artificial intelligence in the gaming world on the eve of an important earnings call.
Expectations for GTA 6 are at their peak
In an interview with Inverse at the Paley International Council Summit on November 7, Zelnick talked about the effects of artificial intelligence on the industry. He stated that artificial intelligence can produce “better” results, but it “will not be faster or cheaper”, and pointed out that large investments in this technology will be required.
Zelnick particularly pointed out the possible positive impact of artificial intelligence on NPCs (non-player characters) in the game world. He noted that NPCs could have more diverse and interactive dialogue trees, making players more likely to return to their games more often.
However, how or whether GTA 6 will use artificial intelligence still remains a mystery. Zelnick further increased the curiosity by stating that information on the subject would come directly from Rockstar.
According to a report published by Bloomberg shortly after the event, the first official trailer of GTA 6 is expected to be released in the near future, specifically for Rockstar’s 25th anniversary in December.
In a statement, Rockstar Games co-founder Sam Houser expressed his excitement about the company’s vision of making gaming culture as important a part as other forms of entertainment. According to Zelnick’s statements, although GTA 6 seems like a guaranteed success for the company, he and his team follow the competition closely and emphasize the importance of constantly pursuing innovation.
Take-Two’s CEO also talked about the layoffs in the gaming world and investments in mobile games. He attributed the layoffs in recent months to game companies’ excessive optimism about growth and their excessive expansion. He attributed Take-Two’s delay in mobile games to strategic mistakes made in the past.
Zelnick stated that they are cautious about film and TV adaptations of their games, that such ventures carry great risks and that they are especially careful about protecting their intellectual property.
Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive continue to look for ways to take a more effective role in the mobile game market and follow the innovations in the industry closely. Although the company is a major player, it attaches importance to acting with a challenging mentality and aims to maintain this attitude in the coming years. Developments regarding GTA 6 and other future projects are eagerly awaited.
