The left ardently defends the motion of censure filed against Gabriel Attal, this Monday, February 5 in the National Assembly. The coordinator of France Insoumise Manuel Bompard notably spoke at the podium.
This Monday, February 5, Gabriel Attal faces a motion of censure filed by the left. In the hemicycle, the coordinator of France Insoumise, Manuel Bompard quickly attacked him. When he spoke to defend the motion of censure, he did not hesitate to describe the tenant of Matignon as “the gentle face of social brutality”. He also used the formula used by the Prime Minister during his general policy speech, with a rebellious twist: “You break the State, you leave, you dirty the Republic, you leave with your clique, you challenge Parliament, Parliament teaches you to respect it. The president of the socialist group in the National Assembly, Boris Vallaud, indicated that it was “already time to leave” for Gabriel Attal.

As a reminder, France Insoumise, the Socialist Party, Europe Ecology-The Greens and the Communist Party jointly tabled the said motion with the aim of contesting the absence of a vote of confidence requested by the government. A choice which is primarily due to the relative majority of the presidential camp in the hemicycle of the Bourbon Palace. A choice that Élisabeth Borne also made a few months ago in 2022, upon her arrival at Matignon, and which had already led to a motion of “no confidence”. This was not adopted. The same scenario is therefore looming.
If the approximately 150 left-wing deputies criticize an absence of “clear political objective” and denounce a “captain [de] boat adrift”, the threshold of 289 votes necessary to pass the motion of censure seems difficult to reach. The Republicans as well as the National Rally have already expressed their reluctance to vote for it, even though LR regularly threatens the presidential camp to table its own motion of censure, but this threat has never been carried out to date.
