The sentence comes just days after her husband was sentenced to prison for corruption crimes in the billions. He is said to have transferred the equivalent of SEK 5.5 billion from the state investment fund 1MDB to his personal bank accounts.
The wife, Rosmah Mansor, is now sentenced to ten years in prison and a fine of 970 million ringgit, equivalent to roughly 2.3 billion kroner. She will be able to remain free on bail pending appeals.
She has often been criticized for her luxurious lifestyle. Investigators have previously seized a large amount of jewellery, handbags and cash in raids on the couple’s properties.
