Former US First Lady Rosalynn Carter, wife of former President Jimmy Carter, is receiving hospice care at her home in Plains, Georgia, the Carter Center announced in a statement.

The center writes that 96-year-old Rosalynn Carter is cared for in the home together with her husband Jimmy Carter, now 99 years old, who since February of this year has also been receiving end-of-life care at home.

The Carter family said in a statement that they are “grateful for all the love and support.”

The family has previously announced that Rosalynn Carter suffers from dementia. Jimmy Carter was diagnosed in 2015 with liver and brain cancer.

Democrat Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States. He took office in 1977 and left office in 1981, when he was succeeded by Republican Ronald Reagan.

After the defeat, the couple established the Carter Center in Atlanta, which is a global center for human rights, democracy and public health. In 2002, Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter have been married for more than 77 years.
