Ewan McGregor has been a part of Star Wars for 25 years. In The Phantom Menace he played the Jedi for the first time Obi-Wan Kenobiplayed by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy. He has reprised the iconic role three times, if we exclude his voice cameos in the sequels.
Most recently, he immersed himself in the galaxy far, far away as part of the Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which bridges the gap between the prequel and the original trilogy in six episodes. But was that really the End of story? If it were up to McGregor, he would start filming a new chapter tomorrow.
Star Wars Return: Ewan McGregor would be immediately on board for a new Obi-Wan project
In an interview with Variety published yesterday, the actor reveals that he would love to return to the Star Wars universe as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
McGregor says:
I really hope we get the chance to make another one. Between the end of the series and Alec Guinness’s on-screen appearance as Luke Skywalker, I think there are a few more stories to be told.
This would clarify the timeline. What McGregor does not address is the question of whether his Obi-Wan return will be another season of the series or perhaps but a movie Last but not least, the series, which was released on Disney+ two years ago, emerged from an originally planned film trilogy.
The original Kenobi plans:
Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 or a new movie with Ewan McGregor? Both are currently possible
After Lucasfilm has focused on producing series for Disney+ in recent years (since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker there has been no new Star Wars film in cinemas),
a change of strategy The big screen is once again a priority for the Star Wars studio.
Two new films from the Star Wars saga are scheduled to hit theaters in 2026, starting with The Mandalorian & Grogu in May 2026, the also based on a seriesThe other film, whose fate is a little more uncertain, is the New Jedi Order project aka the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker.
At the same time, McGregor has expressed several times that he is interested in a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. And he is not the only one: Co-star Hayden Christensen wouldn’t hesitate for a second either. He played Anakin Skywalker in episodes 2 and 3. Most recently, he ran through the Kenobi series in full Darth Vader gear.
Christensen teases:
If that means I can work more with Ewan, then that’s a no-brainerbut I really hope he continues with the character. As a fan, it’s so exciting to watch him play Obi-Wan – he’s just so good at it.
To date, however, Lucasfilm has not officially announced another Obi-Wan project.
