Evolving Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park eyes spring opening: backer

There is a delay in opening the state-of-the-art indoor trampoline park planned for Chatham, but it should be worth the wait, a local backer says.

An addition has been completed to house the trampolines, but project plans have been evolving, said Don Tetrault, president of Tatro and a local investor in Flying Squirrel Trampoline Park.

He anticipates the facility will open in the spring, noting they’re still waiting for specialized equipment, including the top-notch trampolines, a climbing wall and bean stalk climbing apparatus, to arrive from Europe.

Three other Flying Squirrel facilities are being built across North America, including a 9,290-square-meter (100,000-square-foot) project in Miami, Fla., he said.

The local Flying Squirrel Sports, in the former YA building at 730 Richmond St., has been increased from 3,900 sq. m (42,000 sq. ft.) to 4,274 sq. m (46,000 sq. ft.). The facility was originally planned to open in the fall this year.

“Final drawings are being done out of Toronto, changing things up,” he said.

Design of the planned arcade has been upgraded to accommodate the most up-to-date games, he added.

The restaurant kitchen will feature air fryers and other amenities to produce great quality food, Tetrault said.

In a previous release, Flying Squirrel Sports chief executive Cody Schueler called the Chatham location the “perfect destination” for all ages, adrenaline seekers and families.

“(This) park promises to bring boundless, active, healthy fun, laughter and unforgettable memories,” he said. “We are delighted to open this facility to provide Chatham a unique experience unlike any other entertainment in the area.”

Tetrault is constantly hearing how anxious people are for Flying Squirrel to open. “People are calling and whenever they see me they ask (about the project),” he said.
