Everything you need to know about the new zombie mode

With Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the shooter series gets a turn-based zombie mode again. You can find out what you need to know about the mode on MeinMMO.

So that you can start the zombie mode perfectly prepared on October 25th, when CoD Black Ops 6 is released, we will give you an overview of the content in this article.

You get an overview of:

  • the main quest and the new directed mode
  • the currencies: Essence & Salvage
  • Chewing gum, field equipment, equipment, ammunition mods, augmentations and equipment
  • The zombie mode in a nutshell

How does the mode work? Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Zombie Mode is a classic turn-based horde mode in which you must take down waves of zombies and survive. The goal is to survive as many waves as possible.

At release you can play the mode on 2 different maps, Liberty Falls and Terminus. A third map is scheduled to be published by the end of the year. Each map has a main quest that you can complete while playing the mode and completing it will bring you rewards.

In order not to stand in front of the zombies with bare hands, you can equip yourself with firearms and melee weapons. On top of that, you have lethal and non-lethal equipment as well as various field equipment at your disposal in battle. You can also strengthen yourself with 28 different chewing gums, 5 ammunition mods, 8 Perk-a-Colas and 5 field equipment.

Main quest, Easter eggs and directed mode

Main quest: Each map has a main quest that spans several hours. When you complete the main quest of a map, you will receive unique rewards based on that map. However, after completing the main quest, your run is not over. You can fight waves of zombies until you fail – or you allow yourself to be extracted.

Directed mode: “Directed Mode” is a new mode for players diving into the zombie experience for the first time. The mode is scheduled to be released later in the season. All side quests and Easter eggs are disabled within the mode. Its main purpose is to guide new players through the main quest under simplified conditions. For example, in directed mode you have the quest objectives listed at the edge of the screen.

Easter eggs: Black Ops 6 will once again let you find various Easter eggs and ask you to solve various side quests.

    Currencies: Essence & Salvage

In Black Ops 6’s Zombie mode, you collect 2 currencies as you play: Essence and Salvage. Both currencies serve a different purpose and are earned in different ways.

Essence: You get it in the form of points that you collect by eliminating zombies or can be found as vials of Dark Aether Essence. The vials are sometimes dropped by stronger enemies.

Essence is used, for example, to:

  • to acquire Perk-a-Colas, weapon upgrades, random weapons or ammo during a round
  • access target-related devices or open doors
  • Salvage: Collect them as small, green-bordered piles of scrap that are randomly dropped by defeated enemies. There is only one type of salvage in Black Ops 6. In addition, the currency is only collected on a player-by-player basis – so you don’t have to worry about your fellow players stealing the scrap heaps that are yours.

Salvage is used, for example, to:

  • Access ammo mods
  • Increase the rarity of a weapon
  • to specifically equip tactical, lethal or support equipment
  • Loadouts, perks and chewing gum

When putting together your loadouts in zombie mode, you can include the following equipment, which you will then have with you from the start of your run:

  • Primary weapon (assault rifles etc.)
  • Melee weapon
  • Field equipment
  • Tactical equipment (stun grenades etc.)
  • Deadly equipment (fragmentation grenades etc.)
  • Chewing gum package (contains 5 chewing gums)
  • As you progress through the run, you can then use your collected currencies to change or upgrade your weapons, craft new equipment, or purchase Perk-a-Colas and ammo mods. You can also craft support equipment such as armor plates or a Hellstorm.

What are chewing gums? In Black Ops 6’s Zombie mode, you have a pack of 5 different chewing gums in your loadout that you can consume. Consuming consumes the chewing gum. Each chewing gum gives you a special effect, such as a weapon upgrade, improved armor or reviving your fellow players. There are a total of 28 different chewing gums in different levels of rarity.

What is Perk-a-Cola? You can get these Cola cans from special drinks machines. When you consume such a cola, it grants you a perk such as increased health, immunity to status effects, or increased movement or reload speed. There are 8 different types of Perk Cola for the release of Black Ops 6.

What are ammo mods? Over the course of a run, you can use Salvage to purchase ammo mods. These ammo mods cause your weapons to cause a specific effect when you hit an enemy. When released there will be 5 different ammunition mods that cause poison, ice or fire damage, for example.

    Augmentations to improve equipment

What are augmentations? These are unlockable upgrades that you can assign to your Perk Colas, Ammo Mods, and Field Gear before the start of a run. A total of 108 augmentations are available to you at the time of release.

From level 11 you unlock augmentation research and can then select items on which you want to start research. You then have to collect experience points to unlock the augmentation.

    Additional challenges

So that you don’t get bored in zombie mode and you can achieve special goals, Black Ops 6 offers you a number of different challenges.

  • Weapon Camos: In Zombie Mode you can unlock 4 separate Mastery Camos.
  • Dark Ops: A set of mysterious challenges
  • Fadeskreuz challenges: In Black Ops 6 you can customize your crosshairs and with these challenges you unlock zombie-specific crosshairs
  • Prestigious: Black Ops 6 returns to the classic prestige system, which gives you cosmetic content like operator skins and weapon blueprints.
