The water reservoirs are well filled after the storm Hans, nuclear power is expected to be produced as usual and the gas stocks in Europe are reasonably well filled.
There are three signs that the electricity price will not reach the same levels as last winter.
– We will not get the 2022 prices, that is my absolute belief, says Ann-Catrin Dahlbom, electricity analyst at the comparison site Elskling.
July rained away for most people – but just in time for Christmas, you can perhaps be happy that the electricity bill didn’t eat up the entire Christmas table. Most things indicate that the electricity price will be lower this year – unless something big and unforeseen happens.
Gas futures fell ahead of October, as a mild September kept Germans and other gas-consuming Europeans from using as much. If stocks run out in Europe, they have to import electricity to a greater extent, which also affects consumers in Sweden. But now the gas stocks are still almost intact.
Trouble for nuclear power last winter
It is not possible to say in advance how much wind power will contribute this winter, but nuclear power, on the other hand, should normally be predictable.
But last winter, in December, reactors in Sweden, Finland and France had problems at the same time. Ringhals 4 in Sweden had a pressure chamber that required repair, and was therefore taken out of production for several months from 2 December 2022.
In Finland, production from the new Olkiluoto 3 reactor was also delayed.
Sweden’s largest nuclear power reactor Oskarshamn 3 was taken out of operation on several occasions last winter. Among other things in December last year.
“Not 2022 prices”
If electricity production continues as usual for nuclear power this winter, it is a much better situation.
It would take really unfavorable weather, or something unforeseen to happen, for us to get high electricity prices this winter, says Ann-Catrin Dahlbom, analyst at the comparison site for electricity, Elskling.
– If it gets very cold, if it’s not windy or if our neighboring countries get high prices, we move towards their prices. But we will not get the 2022 awards, that is my absolute belief, says Ann-Catrin Dahlbom i News morning.
German nuclear power has been completely shut down, and France is trying to find a way to lower electricity prices, possibly through government intervention, reports Reuters. It is still unclear how those factors will affect the price of electricity this winter.
