Season 8: Release Date, Patch Notes and PTR

When does Season 8 start? Diablo 4 Season 8 starts on April 29, 2025 with a delay of two weeks. According to the Diablo boss, the update needs more development time than originally planned. In addition, an “old friend” comes into play.

Is there a PTR to Season 8? The PTR (public test realm) runs from March 11th to 18th, 2025. There you can test all the new content that Blizzard has shown in the live stream. This includes the new bosses, the changes to the summoning system and also the seasonal mechanics. From March 13th you can be boosted on the PTR. Until then, you should try the slower level.

Blizzard in the blog post writes in concrete terms:

On PTR 2.2.0 we test an updated step ascent, in which the experience gained by monster kills is reduced until level 25. Our goal is to smooth the leveling experience that has significantly increased the leveling speed in the season of witch power. […] Since this is a change in the step promotion in the early game, we switch off the boost NPC for the first 2 days of the PTR to collect data about the new step climb and receive direct feedback.

Is there patch notes To Season 8? You will find the patch notes on Patch 2.2.0 for the upcoming PTR on the official Blizzard website. There you get an overview of the content that will come to you in Season 8.

Season 8: Topic, features and new uniques

What is the topic of Season 8? The official topic of Season 8 is not yet known. In any case, the focus is on the bosses and their strength.

What is in Season 8? In the “Campfire Chat” livestream, the developers reported on March 7, 2025 about the seasonal content and some “Quality of Life” changes in Diablo 4:

  • New seasonal event: In the new seasonal event you make appearances and have to drive them out. The event spawn every few minutes on all difficulty levels in another area in Sanktuario. If you delete the monsters, spawn one of 10 publication bosses and finally a “smaller” variant of Belial itself. If you defeat the bosses, you can also tap their strength.
  • Endgame bosses are “Lair bosses”: The endgame bosses are divided into three stages by “Lair bosses”: inaugurated, larger and sublime. The larger ones include Andariel, Duriel and the harbinger of hate. The sublime Lair boss is Belial, which is supposed to be a really hard chunk. To do this, the summoning of the bosses in Diablo 4 changes, because: You no longer need Mats for that. With the MATS you can open chests after the boss fight to sack even more loot.
  • Qual 4 becomes tough: Blizzard’s philosophy is that only 10 % of the players achieve agony 4. In Season 7, however, it is 50 %. They raise the difficulty by scaling the mine levels higher. The life points of the monsters rise by 20 % multiplicative per stage. Sacrifice 1 begins at mine level 10, Qual 4 then corresponds to mine level 76 of the current Season 7.
  • Slow progress up to level 25: Leveling should no longer go as fast in Season 8 as in the current Season 7. This change is intended to constantly reduce items in the early game and increase the value of activities and seasonal rewards. On top of that, Legendarys are less likely to drop and make magical and rare items more useful again.
  • “”Quality of Life ”updates: In the dungeon description, you can see from Season 8, which boss you are in the dungeon and which mats you need to open the chest after the boss fight. You can teleport to the boss dungeon as soon as you have discovered it.
  • New uniques: In Season 8, a total of 6 new uniques come into play – one per class. You can see which these are and what you can do in our overview:
