With the big July update, the new Arcanist (Arcana) class will be released in Lost Ark. In this small overview, we at MeinMMO reveal what makes the class special and what you can look forward to.
What is the Arcana? The arcanist belongs to the mage classes and has a medium range. As a weapon, she uses a deck of tarot cards, and almost none of her abilities have a casting time. Add to that a high attack speed, which makes the arcanist a very fun and active mage.
The abilities of the class are divided into three groups:
This combination of building stacks and releasing the stacks makes the Arcanist very powerful but also challenging to play. In addition, there is a small random factor via the class-specific feature, which can influence the maximum damage.
When does the arcanist appear? It will be released with the next major update on July 20th. This patch also includes a new difficulty for Valtan, a new summer event, and new skins.

Easy to learn, hard to master – and even then there is luck involved
What class specific ability does the arcanist have? By attacking you build up a resource. If you have accumulated enough of them, you can draw two cards from your deck – the so-called Identity Cards. These have effects that strengthen you. You can hold onto the cards or use them immediately.
The effect depends on the card drawn and is determined by chance. As such, Arcana relies in part on luck for its damage.
There are 12 cards in total and you unlock another one via the class carvings. Possible effects are:
The most important card, however, is “Emperor”. You can only unlock this by engraving it. When activated, it deals decent damage in a 14m radius around you.
How is the start with the Arcana? Very good. She has three yellow abilities to start with Call of Destiny, Dark Resurrection, and Evoke, all of which deal good AoE damage. Call of Destiny also throws enemies into the air while Dark Resurrection inflicts fear on them for 3 seconds.
For elite enemies and bosses, the arcanist then has her red ruin skills, which deal a lot of damage to a target. The blue skills for building stacks also always have a movement component, which makes you very mobile.
In your leveling build, you focus on the attributes crit and agility to get the most out of it. Later, depending on the build, specialization and crit will also be used.
So the Arcana has high AoE damage at the start, good CC, movement skills and also good damage to individual targets.
The June update with the new raid boss Vykas was only released a few weeks ago:
Strong in damage and strong in PvP – if you can
How does it play in endgame? This is where things get a little more complicated. Because the Arcana has hardly any defense and life points, brings little support for the team and its damage is a little dependent on the Identity Cards.
In addition, you must have internalized the stacking mechanics in order to be able to keep up with other classes in PvE damage. There are different combos and strategies here. There are a number of videos from high-level players from Korea who reveal their tricks.
However, the Arcanist retains her high mobility and fun factor in the endgame.
You can find a detailed guide to all abilities and special features of the Arcana by player ErucaFurukawa in the Lost Ark forum.
Is the Arcana good in PvP? Yes. Here, too, she benefits from the high mobility and the damage she can inflict on an opponent through the stacking mechanism.
What do you say about the Arcana? Are you looking forward to the release of the class or would you rather have gotten a different one? What do you like particularly well or not at all? Feel free to write it in the comments.
