Defensa y Justicia lost in stoppage time.
It took a toll on the team’s goalkeeper – but he was quickly comforted by a supporter who stormed the field.
On Monday, the Argentinian team Defensa y Justica came close to solving a cross against the big club Boca Juniors. It was 0-0 on the scoreboard and the home crowd was about to leave the arena with a point in their pocket.
Lost in stoppage time
But then the inevitable happened. In the 92nd minute of the match, Boca Juniors finally got a hole in the home team, and made sure that the team had to return home with all three points in their pocket.
When the referee finally blew the match off, Defensa y Justicia’s goalkeeper and team captain Ezequiel Unsain was completely broken. He crouched against the grass and tears looked close.
But then he was comforted from an unexpected place. A young supporter then ran onto the pitch to hug and try to cheer up the goalkeeper. A move that is new is hailed by many football lovers.
Celebrated now
“All it takes to spread positivity is a hug,” writes one user on Reddit.
“It looks like the top list of the best gestures in football needs to be rewritten,” writes another.
“The goalkeeper will remember that for a long time and should make him stronger,” writes a third.
And we can only agree. So nicely done by the young supporter.
