Everyone is waiting for the new MMORPG Throne and Liberty – but there is bad news

The MMORPG Throne and Liberty launched in South Korea in December 2023. Amazon was actually supposed to bring it to Europe in 2024 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X. But the latest signal from South Korea is negative.

This is the status of Throne and Liberty:

NCSoft is concealing sales figures for Throne and Liberty in South Korea

What’s the bad news? The developer of Throne and Liberty, NCSoft, announced the current sales figures for all of their MMORPGs in an investor conference – except for Throne and Liberty. At the last investor conference, no figures were given for any MMORPG.

The numbers don’t look good anyway, the mobile MMORPGs that used to be so strong are clearly in crisis, the old PC games are stable, Guild Wars 2 can even grow significantly:

NCsoft gives all the numbers, even the ancient Aion and the struggling Blade & Soul: But Throne and Liberty is missing.

The lack of figures for Throne and Liberty is seen as a sign that the MMORPG, which is relatively new in South Korea, is falling short of the developers’ expectations.

The MMORPG seems to be in a bad state in its home country; extensive changes have already been introduced.

Is WildStar’s fate impending?

That’s the problem: We in the West still remember when NCSoft consistently concealed the sales figures of an MMORPG: That was WildStar, the WoW killer, which was then killed by WoW.

The MMORPG proved to be a tragic flop and was ultimately discontinued.

The concealment of sales figures, along with the lack of a release date from Amazon and the alleged problems with a console port, call a possible launch of Throne and Liberty into question.

There is no question that the release of Throne and Liberty for Amazon in February 2023 looked significantly more attractive than in May 2024.

It’s not a good sign when an MMORPG seems to run out of steam in its home country before it’s launched in Europe. A new PC MMORPG would also be so important for NCSoft, where the “hype MMORPGs” on mobile are currently in crisis, while the existing PC MMORPGs, especially Guild Wars 2, are doing well: Guild Wars 3: Finally there was a new MMORPG announced, but the announcement was bad
