The Day Before was once the most wanted game on Steam, but its launch into early access proved to be a disaster. Just a few days later, the studio behind the survival flop announced its closure. Now they’re back.

About the history: The Day Before was discussed as a great survival hope in 2021. But the closer the release got, the more doubts increased as to whether the game could keep its promises. When it launched in early access, the title was a far cry from what had been seen in the impressive trailers.
Just a few days later, the makers took action and closed the studio. An insider report shows how The Day Before generated so much hype and then flopped so badly.
The Day Before: A major fraud or just tragic incompetence? Géraldine Hohmann spoke about this in GameStar Talk with a lawyer.
Developers are back and want money
What do the developers say? In a post on X, Fntastic, the developers behind the survival flop The Day Before, are back nine months after their closure. In it, those responsible apologize, but also explain that everyone deserves a second chance.
There is a link behind which the plans for “Fntastic 2.0” are supposed to be hidden. The developers want to make up for their old mistakes and “come back better”. To do this, they are asking the community for financial support.
All traces of The Day Before have been erased from the X account. In the comments under their post, the developers state that they no longer have rights to the game, or their other title, Propnight. You can see the post here:
What’s the plan? The developers detail their “recovery concept” in a multi-page PDF. “Fnastic 2.0” is committed to three important principles:
The goal for 2024 to 2025 is to strengthen community ties, rebuild the Fntastic brand and overall do everything better. The developers already have a new project in the works, which they want to finance via Kickstarter.
It says (via X): “You once helped us create Fntastic through Kickstarter. Now we need your help again to bring Fntastic back!” And: “We are motivated to create more games if the Kickstarter is a success.” (via X)
What kind of new game is this supposed to be? According to initial images, “Escape Factory” is supposed to be a kind of party game for 4-8 players who have to escape from a factory. There is already a Steam page where the game has tags like “3D Platformer” and “Puzzle Platformer”. You can also download a free demo there.
According to the current status (September 27, 2024, 9:55 a.m.), the developers’ campaign on Kickstarter already has 13 supporters who have contributed a total of 342 euros of the advertised goal of 13,937 euros.
It remains to be seen whether Fntastic can win back its community in this way. However, the initial reactions to X are rather negative. Many users suspect a scam and more or less politely ask the developers to finally withdraw from the gaming industry.
