On the very day of his own wedding, Sheriff Kane (Gary Cooper) is threatened with revenge from the feared murderer Miller (Ian MacDonald), whom he had put in prison years ago. His young wife Amy (Grace Kelly) asks Kane not to face the impending duel to the death and to leave the city.
The sheriff, who is already at the end of his duty, has to make a decision because Miller’s train is supposed to roll into the station at twelve noon. The hour of decision strikes and keeps the whole city in suspense.
