PROVINCE OF UTRECHT – The last race in the Marathon Cup of the marathon skaters was won by Evert Hoolwerf on Saturday. De Eemdijker was faster in the sprint in The Hague than his own brother Bart Hoolwerf.

Crispijn Ariëns took the podium as number three after the closing race of the Marathon Cup. Ivar Immerzeel from Wilnis crossed the finish line in 23rd and Willem Hoolwerf in 29th.

Two weeks ago at the Marathon Cup in Utrecht, the roles were reversed. Bart finished just ahead of Evert Hoolwerf. The latter reacted against RTV Utrecht when provoked that he still saw enough matches to hit back. There were two more races in the Marathon Cup on the program. In the meantime, Evert Hoolwerf has taken his brother back and with that the second victory in the Marathon Cup of this season was a fact. During the decisive sprint he kept an eye on Bart. “We picked up the sprint early. We thought Bart’s team would get over it quickly, but that took a long time. That took a lot of energy. When it did happen, I knew I had to find Bart and start the sprint from behind it. In the chaos of the sprint I was able to remain calm and do what was necessary,” says Evert Hoolwerf.

Jessica Merkens tenth in Marathon Cup

Among the women, the regional peers were far from the prizes. Tessa Snoek from Abcoude became 24th and the Mijdrechtse Melissa from Pierre 25th.

Jessica Merkens from Utrecht crossed the finish line in 39th place, but can call herself the best regional rider in the final standings of the Marathon Cup. She finished tenth in it. The win went to Lisa van der Geest.
