After three months of absence, the French deputy Adrien Quatennens made his return to the National Assembly, this Wednesday, January 11. The leading executive of the La France insoumise party had been sidelined, implicated and then convicted of domestic violence.
With our reporter at the Bourbon Palace, Charlotte Urien Tomaka
A return on tiptoe, on the occasion of a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
Adrien Quatennens returns, while swearing that he does not want to make waves. But there is no question for him of giving up his job as a deputy.
I carry out my work as a parliamentarian, I apply and I respect the decision taken by my political group.
But his return obviously did not go unnoticed, especially on the side of the presidential camp.
“ It is obvious to us that this return cannot be ignored, that there is nothing natural about it, nothing trivial about it, and in fact nothing normal about it. », attacks Aurore Bergé, president of the Renaissance group in the National Assembly.
The presidential majority has just proposed to introduce ineligibility for elected officials convicted of domestic violence.
” We finally drew the consequences of a legal void that we had noted during the conviction of Adrien Quatennens by the courts. “, pleads Sacha Houlié, Renaissance deputy and president of the Law Commission.
Marine Le Pen, for her part, denounces the ambiguities of La France insoumise on the subject of domestic violence:
Adrien Quatennens, if he really wanted to return not on the sly, but after all with his head held high, to the National Assembly, he should resign and be re-elected. But beyond the Adrien Quatennens case, what is spectacular is the absolutely total hypocrisy of La France insoumise.
No comment from the side of LFI, but among some allied deputies of Nupes, this return makes them cringe, while the union of the left would like to focus on the battle for pensions.
