The Finnish team did not have time to object to the fact that at least three triple jumpers who made it to the final used jumping shoes, which are prohibited by the rules.
Finland was the only country to select six triple jumpers for the European Championships in Rome. For the three female jumpers, the job ended on Friday with the qualification.
Kristina Hilly finished 14th with a result of 13.76 and missed the final place by 10 cents.
However, very special things happened at the jump site. At least three jumpers ie Slovenian Neat FilipinoItaly Daria Derkach and Spain Ana Peleteiro–Compaore used Adidas’ Adizero TJ/PV jumping shoes, which are in the International Association of Athletics Federations’ World Athletics rules marked in triple jump as unequivocally prohibited instruments.
Passed revision
Athletes should have been prohibited from using these footwear at the latest in the calling room, i.e. the gathering space where the athletes’ footwear is checked. For some reason this was not done.
– The protest time after the competition is so short, i.e. half an hour, that we just didn’t have time to react to this, because the information came too late. We have appealed to the jury of the games that somehow this issue should be compensated. If these footwear or any equipment had changed from prohibited to permitted here at the Games, yes, every athlete and team should be informed equally, Sports Confederation GM Jani Danish staked on Friday.
According to the rules, wearing slippers that are prohibited may lead to the rejection of the performance.
“The final race to get bigger”
In Tanskanen’s opinion, the final competition should be narrowed down to more than 12 athletes, i.e. include those who qualified first, because the slipper rule has clearly been broken. It will be very interesting to see if the equipment doping seen in the qualifiers will also be allowed in the final competition.
– I hope we will hear something positive about this matter soon.
The Adizero TJ/PV sneakers are primarily designed for pole vaulting and triple jumping. They are also prohibited in pole vaulting. The model can be freely sold and marketed.
Mäkelä’s coach Thomas Allowed said that Mäkelä, who had jumped with permitted footwear, had noticed a problem at the qualifying place.
– I find the situation quite incomprehensible. That model is unequivocally prohibited, but this kind of thing cannot be controlled in value competitions.
According to Sallinen, the banning of the model is based on the height of its base.
– The height of the model gives so much of an advantage in the triple jump that it is forbidden.
Failed in qualifying among Finnish jumpers Senni Strait according to Sallinen, would have used the model in question if it had been known that it would pass the inspection despite World Athletics’ prohibition table.
– He has practiced with it and knows how to jump with it. However, Senni decided to strictly follow the rules.
