While the problem of air and sea borders in the Aegean, the islands and the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean are the reasons for the tension between Greece and Turkey, Former Greek Defense Minister and Honorary Chief of General Staff Evangelos Apostolakis stated that a war may break out between the two countries.
“TENSION CAN TRIGGER WAR”
While the tension between Greece and Turkey continued, a striking statement came from the Greek side. Former Greek Defense Minister and Honorary Chief of the General Staff Evangelos Apostolakis evaluated the situation between Turkey and Greece at the event he attended. According to Apostolakis, who stated that it is necessary to be ready for the worst scenario between the two countries, this tension may trigger the war.
“THEY SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE RISK OF WAR”
Apostolakis also gave a warning to the Greek people, saying, “This people has responded to the challenges faced throughout history. Everyone, our friends and the opposition should be aware of the risk of war.”
“WELCOME A WONDERFUL LEGAL ANSWER”
Turkey considers the extension of Greece’s territorial waters to 12 miles as ‘Casus Belli’ (cause of war). Regarding this decision, Apostolakis said, “Greece does not change its sovereignty just because the parliament of another country has taken a decision. It would be a great legal response to extend the continental shelf in Crete to 12 miles.”
Addressing Turkey as well, Apostolakis said, “Those in Ankara should know that Athens has no intention of giving up its sovereign rights provided by international laws.”
