It’s probably no coincidence that we liked Midnight Mass King so much. After all, the series has many references to the writer’s work. Richard Roeper even said in his review for the Chicago Sun-Time: “[Midnight Mass ist] the best Stephen King story that Stephen King never wrote.”

Flanagan has never made a secret about his devotion to King. His oeuvre includes numerous works that were inspired by, if not directly based on, King’s books. Specifically, he has adapted The Game (2017), Doctor Sleep’s Awakening (2019) and The Life of Chuck (2024).

Flanagan was also awarded a Reboot of The Dark Tower associated. After a critical failure in 2017, Amazon wants to reissue the epic fantasy story as a series. However, the project has not yet been officially ordered. For now, Flanagan is adapting the King classic Carrie for Amazon.
