Diplomatic sources reported that the evacuation of Turkish citizens in Sudan has begun. The statement said, “The process of evacuating our first group of citizens (140 people) from Khartoum via Ethiopia by road started on April 23. These citizens are on their way to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. Our citizens will be transferred to our country by air from Ethiopia.” it was said.
“OUR COUNTRY’S PRIORITY…”
Diplomatic sources stated that after the clashes that started in Sudan on April 15, the Consular Call Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (KÇM) contacted Turkish citizens and provided the necessary information following the start of the conflicts and said, “The priority of our country is the safety of our citizens and Embassy personnel.”

According to information obtained from diplomatic sources, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a separate phone call on April 20 with Sudan Sovereignty Council Chairman Gen. Following this meeting, Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had a telephone conversation with Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Al Sadik on April 22.
After both meetings, it was stated that the evacuation process of 140 people from the first group of Turkish citizens in Khartoum started by road via Ethiopia, and that these citizens are on their way to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, and that they will be transferred to Turkey by air from Ethiopia.
“TO BE DISCHARGED ASAP”
It was stated that the citizens of the other two assembly areas determined by the Khartoum Embassy of Turkey will be evacuated as soon as possible, taking into account the security conditions on the ground.
On the other hand, it was noted that the Turkey-Sudan Training and Research Hospital in the city of Nyala in Darfur province and the measures for Turkish employees are being evaluated separately, the hospital continues to serve under difficult conditions, the Turkish Embassy in Khartoum continues its activities uninterruptedly and continues its evacuation efforts. It was shared that the evacuation of the embassy was out of the question at this stage.
According to the information obtained from diplomatic sources, it was stated that Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was also in contact with the foreign ministers of other countries, and many countries requested assistance from Turkey for the evacuation of their own citizens. In addition, it was learned that the USA, the UK and some other countries could only evacuate their own Embassy personnel from Sudan, and they could not evacuate any citizens.
