The EU External Relations Service said in a statement that this step was another deliberate attempt to undermine peace efforts. The statement noted that EU leaders strongly condemned Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s statements regarding the legalization of five outposts in the occupied West Bank, and called on Israel to reverse this step towards the expansion of illegal settlements.
“WE WILL NOT RECOGNIZE”
“The EU, in line with its long-standing common position and the United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions, will not recognize any changes to the 1967 borders unless agreed upon by the parties,” the statement said.
The statement underlined that actions that weaken the Palestinian Authority must be stopped, and that customs revenues withheld by Israel must be released and measures must be taken to ensure the continuity of services between Israeli and Palestinian banks.
INSISTENCE ON A TWO-STATE SOLUTION
In the statement, the EU’s commitment to the two-state solution in line with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council was reiterated to ensure lasting peace in the region.
